IBS or Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a common disease all over the world. IBS is a combination of several symptoms of abdominal pain. In this disease, the stomach becomes more sensitive and becomes more active than usual. At least 10-15 out of every 100 people in the West suffer from this disease. According to a study, 20 out of every 100 men in Bangladesh and 27 out of every 100 women are infected with the disease. So far the real cause of this disease is not known. However, it is a disease of the esophagus or intestines.

★Possible causes of IBS:

Symptoms of IBS include esophageal hypersensitivity, abnormality of esophageal motility, or errors in the message sent to the brain from the inside. In addition to changes in the intestinal immune system, changes in the gut’s own microbe may be a possible cause of IBS.


IBS can also be caused by nerve stress, anxiety, dietary changes, hormonal (in women with menstrual cycles) and any esophageal infection. IBS is more common in women in their 20s and 40s and in men with impaired mental health.

★Symptoms of IBS:

Pain or discomfort in any part of the lower abdomen or in the middle of the abdomen. Frequent soft bowel movements or long-term constipation, feeling of relief in the abdomen after bowel movements. IBS patients are also known to have a feeling of fullness of stomach, wheezing, flatulence or excessive bowel movements after bowel movements, excess mucus in the stool, and rapid bowel movements in the morning or after meals Symptoms.

★Diagnosis of IBS:

The disease is usually diagnosed based on the symptoms. However, other diseases of the colon such as colon tumors or cancer, IBD (inflammation of the intestine), celiac disease (coeliac disease), etc. may also have this feeling, so some tests are required for IBS patients. However, the results of these tests are normal for IBS patients.

★The tests are of IBS:

blood test, stool test, abdominal X-ray, barium enema x-ray, colonoscopy. But if there is blood in the stool, weight loss or sudden thin stool, then the advice of a gastroenterologist should be taken urgently.

★Treatment of IBS:

Reassuring the patient for the treatment of IBS is a very important part of treatment. IBS is a long-term disease, but it is not a risky disease, nor is it a contagious disease. It is not likely to cause bowel cancer. Currently the treatment of IBS is symptomatic.
